milkshakes and laughter and everything after
wanna be in good company
milkshakes and laughter and whatever comes after
promise you don't have to call
oh, who knows what I should say?
by happenstance you're looking my way
social grace is granted to my lips, rockin' seas like rolling ships
like my mom I gots a swagger to my hips, when I dip, you dip, we...
milkshakes and laughter and everything after
wanna be in good company
milkshakes and laughter and whatever comes after
promise I won't even call
so I'll share with you a modest little grin
it's not my fault you find that so distractin'
see, by trade, I'm a firecracker with a certain distinctive factor
I can gaze with eyes of an actor, love me or not, pick the latter
milkshakes and laughter and everything after
wanna be in good company
milkshakes and laughter and whatever comes after
promise we won't even talk

on the side of the road is where he died
got caught lookin' in a hole
near the town he called his home
the price was to burn alive with bullets through his sides as we rode by
they got too close
to the cavalry as they traveled
a heat round crippled their bus
the survivors tried to run
but a well-oiled war machine obeying orders and R.O.E. killed them all
I used to hope to take a life
because I was trained to respect orders more
far more than life
turn, aim, semi, fire
a few thousand times more
at shapes of men
'till it becomes muscle memory
so you no longer think
because on the battle field it's kill or be killed and you cannot yield
I used to hope to take a life
because I had to say no far too many times
when asked if i had
I used to hope to take a life
before I ever began to understand
the motives of either side

well hello there, what's that blank stare I see across the room?
where are those eyes so blue that you can usually get lost into?
well your mind is troublin' and your spirit crumblin' but hell, I got you
and weather for a giggle or a wiggle-wiggle if I can't, I'm gonna try to
let's get you out of here
or we'll stay and have a beer
or wine, or mac 'n cheese
oh we'll do whatever you want or please...I'm here
well I'm not sure if I can get it fixed but I got this here bag of tricks, I'll try
whether it's loungin' under fiery stars or dancin' by fireside
is it the woes of the world that are makin' your face red?
is it the woes of the world that are troublin' your head?
let's get you out of here
or we'll stay and have a beer
port wine mac 'n cheese
oh we'll do whatever you want or please...I'm here

I'd heard about the jackyl before I'd seen his yellow eyes
I met him on the railroad track, he stretched out for miles back
he asked to ease my mind
from what I can remember in my red wine drunken haze
we started walking hand-in-arm, and here's a lesson that I learned:
these were the grandest of my days
never trust a man with a silver tongue
never stop the good you've got until the body's done
carve more than your name into that tree
bounces off the hollow, where the fellow beating heart should be
we never left the comfort of that cheap, sassy motel
quite the darling gentleman, oh I wish I know'd what I didn't know then
how fast the heart can swell
secrets shared and lives compared in a matter of short time
I woke to no letter wrote, no final word to be spoke
I surely wasn't his but he was mine
never trust a man with a silver tongue
never stop the good you've got until the body's done
carve more than your name into that tree
bounces off the hollow, where the fellow beating heart should be
well girl, don't fear the jackyl with his distant, yellow eyes
he's a beast I'm sure who loves, though I have seen no evidence of
such conquest in his size

a letter in progress
signifying an end
my epiphany
farewell phrased logically
will she understand
(I thought I saw him yesterday)
when she reads the last words from a friend
(couldn't bring myself to turn around his way)
never to meet again
(what would I, what would I say anyway?)
unless by manufactured coincidence
a letter in progress
signifying an end
label me a memory
farewell phrased logically
will she understand
(how dare he turn his back to me?)
when she reads the last words from a friend
(but he said he would, said he would, said he'd leave)
never to meet again
(never to, never to meet again)
unless by manufactured coincidence
remember when I said
(well I remember, I remember, I remember it differently)
the stars, they shine for you
(I didn't need anyone to lead me)
well look how bright those are that still do
(shinin' brighter than ever now, brighter than ever now)
cause I am not your star

"Rochester's Gin & Bonnets play a fervent blend of folk-rock that rests at nothing to both inspire and engage. At times deeply political; at others sheer exuberance. " -Tim Avery
